Manipal Heart Foundation (MHF) at the Manipal Hospital Bangalore
is one of the most reputed cardiology setups in South India. MHF
is manned by a team of highly qualified doctors in heart care in
India. The Cardiology team is headed by Dr. Subash Chandra - one
of the most respected Cardiologists and the Surgery team is headed
by Dr. Ganesh Krishnan Iyer. They are ably supported by well-trained

Clinical Services
Treatment is offered for the entire range of cardiac diseases both
for adults and children. The wide range of interventional procedures
done in the catheterization laboratory demonstrates this. Over 14,000
procedures have been performed over the last 5 years. This includes
over 400 coronary interventions per year. The unit has to its credit
a large series of patients with rheumatic valvular disease treated
with percutaneous valvuloplasties and patients with congenital disease
such as atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect and patent
ductus arteriosus treated with device closure.
The unit is very active in the peripheral vascular interventional
field starting with peripheral angioplasty with stenting and including
percutaneous treatment of arterial aneurysms and aortic disease
(aneurysms, dissections etc) with covered stents and stent grafts.
Cardiac electrophysiology services including diagnostic electrophysiology
studies, radio frequency ablation for various arrhythmias and permanent
pacemaker implantation are offered. The entire range of cardiac
non-invasive tests including electrocardiography, echocardiography,
stress testing and holter studies are available. In providing all
these facilities, every effort is made to ensure the best of service
to the patients at very affordable costs.
Manipal Institute of Neurological Disorders
Manipal Institute for Neurological Disorders is one of the largest
departments in the private sector in India. This department provides
excellent services for Neurosurgery and Neurology. Manipal Institute
for Neurological Disorders has exclusively reserved 100 beds for
neurosurgery and neurology. The department of neurosurgery has four
faculty members and four well equipped state of the art neurosurgery
operation theatres. We are an 18-bed neurosurgery intensive care
unit with sophisticated monitors and ventilators.
Clinical Services
The department of Neurosurgery conducts about 1000 major neurological
operations every year. We cater to neurosurgical problems like brain

The Radiology and Imaging department, for instance, has the latest

The Blood Bank is currently the largest blood donation centre in
the city and the first to install a fully computer aided blood bank

The Radiology and Imaging department also teaches and trains post

Manipal Pathology & Lab
Histopathology
The histopathology laboratory accesses over 5000 surgical pathology
specimens annually. Most reports are available within 24 hours [small
biopsies] to 48 hours [large specimens]. In addition, Papanicolaou
smears, fine needle aspiration cytology smears and fluid cytology
is also performed.
Slides and blocks are accepted for a second opinion. Most reports
are available the next day. In addition, MHDS is the only private
laboratory in Bangalore which does immunohistochemistry on paraffin
blocks for tumors. Antibodies available are Cytokeratin, Vimentin,
ER, PgR, GFAP, CD15, CD30, CD45, CD68, CD3, CD20, CD31, CD117(C
- kit) Synaptophysin, Chromogranin, S-100 p and AFP.
Fetal autopsies are performed in the department for hospital cases
as well as referral cases.
Biochemistry
The Biochemistry section performs 3000 tests per day pertaining
to 145 parameters. It is a referral center for several laboratories
in the city and state. It has been approved by MAHE for research
activities.
It participates in quality assurance programmes conducted by an
International Testing agency, with CMC, Vellore and is a participating
member of the ILQA which is a registered body in Bangalore.
Hematology and Clinical Pathology
This department is fully automated with the finest analyzers and
routinely handles over 300 hematology and 200 clinical pathology
samples daily. Special tests to diagnose coagulopathies, hemolytic
disorders, hemoglobionopathies and hematology oncology are performed
daily. Special stains and cytochemistry are done to classify leukemia
and flow cytometry will be introduced for immunophenotyping.
+ The completely automated hematology analyzers and coagulation
systems offer accurate and rapid results for baseline hematology
investigations.
+ Besides routine investigations, the hematology laboratory offers
complete panel for workup of coagulopathies and
haemoglobinopathies.
