Dr Santosh Prabhu: Doctor who will be heading the Liberation Procedure
for MS patient

Dr. Santosh Prabhu a renowned Neurological and Spinal surgeon, is the Director, Neurological surgery . An alumnus of MGIMS, Sevagram (1980), he received gold medals in Pharmacology and Surgery and did his M.S. in General Surgery standing first in Nagpur University (1985). He super specialized in Neurosurgery from Seth GS Medical collage and KEM hospital, Mumbai, obtaining M.Ch. in 1987.

He was a Teaching Faculty & Assistant Professor in Neurosurgery at KEM hospital till 1991. He underwent special training in Micro neurosurgery in U.K.

Dr. Prabhu has performed over 7500 Neurosurgeries and treated over 20000 head injuries. Stereotactic surgery, Transsphenoid Pituitary excisions are his areas of special interest. He has championed Vim Thalamotomy, an operation for treating Parkinson's disease. He has performed, the highest number of micro vascular decompression surgeries for Trigeminal neuralgia by a single individual in India. For this, he was invited to deliver an oration in National Conference On Pain, Ahmedabad. Member of many International bodies like World Federation of Neurosurgeon, International Pediatric Neurosurgical society and International Association of Spinal surgeons, he delivers lectures and has published papers at International and Nationals forums.

Dr. Prabhu envisages a future where world class neurocare would be available to people of this region at affordable costs. WIINS is the first step towards this goal. A charitable trust has been created at the institute to help the underprivileged. Invited by National Institute of Paediatrics, Hanoi University, Vietnam for live neurosurgical demonstrations under neuronavigation control and to train neurosurgeons from Vietnam In Image Guided Surgery, Recipient of FIE Foundation National Life Time Achievement Award 2007.

Recipient of Avishkar Life Time Achievement Award 2008 Above awards are given in recognition of his immense contribution to Neurosurgery in Western Maharashtra.
